Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator

Purpose: To actively recruit, direct, and support volunteers and volunteer initiatives. To attract members to the Centre and promote skill and knowledge sharing within the community through coalition building with allied student and community groups.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  1. run campaigns to recruit volunteers
  2. place volunteers according to their interests and skills
  3. maintain good relationships between staff, steering collective members and volunteers; volunteer direction and appreciation
  4. organizing meetings between various groups on diverse topics with Centre-based and community groups
  5. coordinate monthly general meetings for the Centre’s staff and steering collective, as well as volunteer meetings
  6. keep the website and google calendar up-to-date with upcoming events and meetings
  7. coordinate working groups based around various topics and interests
  8. update the Centre’s referrals and resources and maintain a newslist of allied groups and organizations
  9. collaborate with staff and steering collective to run the Centre office; answering phone calls, returning phone messages, responding to and organizing e-mails, planning and facilitating meetings, keeping things tidy, etc.
  10. commit at least 3 hours a week to working in the office
  11. attend all staff meetings
Qualifications and Skills:
  1. must identify with the Centre’s mandate
  2. must be committed to anti-oppressive ideology and practices
  3. very strong written and oral communication skills
  4. experience managing and coordinating volunteers
  5. experience coordinating or facilitating meetings and workshops
  6. leadership; ability to motivate others in an encouraging and positive way
  7. experience working independently, including thinking creatively
  8. ability to work collaboratively
  9. knowledge of, and commitment to, principles of gender justice
  10. knowledge of the Trent and Peterborough communities
  11. strong interpersonal skills
  12. basic administrative skills, such as web literacy, filing, record-keeping, minute-keeping, etc.
  13. dependable and reliable
